Gapers Block loves The Prairie Spies only ever-so-slightly less than I do. http://gapersblock.com/transmission/2008/05/14/prairie_spies_the_empty_bottle/

Best. Band. Ever.

So we've known for a while that the Prairie Spies will be releasing their quite wonderful new LP at a Friday night show at the Empty Bottle, on May 16. That was exciting enough. A week ago, we found out the Spectacles would be joining them. Even more exciting. And then, over the weekend, we learned that the Killer Whales- i.e. the best fucking band I've ever seen- will be headlining.

Their web presence is a little ramshackle, but basically the music is crazy syncopated reggae punk rock, with feeling. I saw them a couple years ago and then they split up for a while, and I literally haven't stopped thinking about them since.

The news will be coming fast and furious from here on out. More later.

Spectacles on Sports Radio.

The Spectacles' cover of Stephanie Says by The Velvet Underground was featured as the ending credits of the intellectual elite's own sports show - The Shuttlecoque Sporting Hour. I was also a guest commentator. My topic was "Chicks and Dudes: Sports Attitudes!" It was really fun.

The show hosts write:

Gentle Listener,
Maybe you haven't spent anytime recently in the warm arms of something we around here refer to as Sweeping Generalization. Seriously, though, you should try it--here at:
